FuelTapp is the first fully digital fuel card in the UK so we've put together some FAQs to help you get up to speed with this game-changing technology and how it could benefit you and your business.

What is FuelTapp?

FuelTapp is a digital fuel card, powered by Certas Energy. It allows users to pay for fuel using an app-generated PIN at Certas Energy bunker sites without the need for a physical card or cash.

Who can use FuelTapp?

Any business can apply for a FuelTapp account from limited companies to partnerships or sole traders. All applicants are subject to credit and identity checks prior to acceptance.

I'm not an existing Certas Energy customer. Can I still apply for a FuelTapp card?

Yes, you can. In fact, you could be credit approved within minutes of completing your FuelTapp application form.

What's the approvals process?

We've made the approvals process as simple as possible. Applications are made through a seamless online portal which uses an API to share customer details with a credit checking company. This is to confirm your identity as well as evaluate your credit eligibility. If you are an existing Certas Energy customer, you will be referred to Certas Energy's credit control to make sure there is no overexposure to risk based on the credit application. Once your credit has been approved, you will be able to log back in to register your drivers for a digital Fuel Card via the app. It really is that simple!

How long does it take to be approved?

If the person completing the online forms has all the relevant information to hand and the relevant checks are passed, the sign-up process with FuelTapp can take just five to ten minutes!

Will the application affect my credit score?

If you are a limited company, the FuelTapp card will have no effect on your credit rating. If you are applying as a sole trader or partnership, our credit check will leave a score against your personal profile. Repeated applications for credit can result in a negative effect on your personal credit rating. Make sure that you keep up with your credit payments to avoid this.

What are the benefits of a virtual fuel card over a physical one?

FuelTapp is the first fully digital fuel card in the UK market. Opting for a virtual fuel card solution means that you don't need to worry about forgetting your card or losing it. The card is stored online, easily accessible through a mobile app, so you know you always have it ready to go. For managers, it's easy to make changes to fuel card permissions, add new users and change spend limits without any delays or hassle.

Where can I buy fuel with my FuelTapp virtual card?

We are currently expanding our payment terminals so that FuelTapp will soon be available for use at any of the 30 Certas Energy HGV bunker sites situated across the UK. Click here to find an eligible site near you.

What can I buy with my FuelTapp card?

FuelTapp can currently be used to purchase fuel and AdBlue®. We will be looking to expand this to other products and services in the future.

Do I have to pay for a FuelTapp card?

The FuelTapp virtual card is completely free – you only pay for the fuel that you buy.

How do I pay for fuel through FuelTapp?

During the approvals process, we'll run a credit check and ask you to set up a direct debit mandate with us. All payments will be taken securely through this process, so you don't need to do anything else.

How much money can I save?

By using a FuelTapp virtual fuel card, you can save on the cost of your fuel bill and physical cards. By cutting out the middle-man and working with Certas' own network, you could save up to 0.30ppl on your fuel costs.

What if I go over my credit limit?

Don't worry - Certas Energy's credit team works closely with all our customers to ensure you are spending within your limits. If your circumstances change, such as a fleet increase, we make it easy to increase your credit limit in line with your requirements.

How does FuelTapp use my information?

The business data submitted in your application form will only be used to perform credit and identity checks. All other basic but necessary information held is in accordance with the Certas Energy privacy policy listed on our website.

Can more than one person use the same account?

Yes – you can have multiple managers accessing the same account. Whether you're a fleet manager with a team of drivers, or a small business looking to add a new recruit, it's quick and easy to update your account through the FuelTapp online portal.

What happens if I want to close my account?

We hope you'll love FuelTapp so much you won't need to, but it's easy to close your account if needed. Just get in touch with Fuel Card Customer Services on 0845 608 8003 or email at fuelcardsupport@certasenergy.co.uk.

Can I request a physical card in addition to the app?

Yes, we're happy to offer physical cards in addition to the FuelTapp online platform. Once you've logged into the portal, you will be able to order cards linked to your account. Please note that additional charges may apply for physical cards.

Where do I download the app?

Once you're registered with FuelTapp, we'll send each driver on the account a personal link via email. This will take you to your phone's app store, where you can download the app with a one-time passcode for activation.

How secure is FuelTapp?

Your FuelTapp account and online portal are secured with the latest Microsoft Azure Server protection, keeping your business and driver information safe. Plus, the use of a digital fuel card eliminates the risk of a physical card being lost, stolen or cloned.

Is there a limit on the number of users per account?

No, you can add as many drivers to your FuelTapp account as you need! And because the card is digital, it's possible to have more than one card per driver – ideal for fleets that regularly switch between drivers.

Can I use my FuelTapp app on multiple devices?

Yes – your FuelTapp app is not linked to one device. To activate the app on a second device, simply use the original code sent to you for your first activation.

Is FuelTapp compatible with all devices?

The FuelTapp Cardivation app is compatible with Apple or Android devices through the App Store or Google Play Store.

Do I need a secure internet connection to access the FuelTapp app?

The app will work even if the device is not receiving any data. However, you will need a secure internet connection to access the FuelTapp customer portal.

What do I do if I can't open the app, or I'm having technical problems?

What happens if my phone runs out of battery and I need to pay for fuel?

You will need your phone to pay via the FuelTapp app. If your phone is out of battery or otherwise indisposed, you will need to use another payment method.

What happens if my device is lost or stolen?

It's easy to block your FuelTapp account, even if you don't have your phone. Log on to your customer portal from any device and issue a STOP to the fuel card. This will prevent any fraudulent activity in case a thief gains access to your lost or stolen device.
